Posted by Greg Jones on April 29, 2005 at 9:45 pmAre there any advantages in installing Quicktime 7? Does quicktime 7 work with FCP 4.5? Does the AJA io work with Quicktime 7? Has anyone been brave enough to install it
and find out?Greg Jones

April 30, 2005 at 1:46 pmCheck the Apple Final Cut Discussion. There are a couple of posts warning against Qt7. The main thing seems to be that you loose your Pro license and have to pay $30 to get it again. I wouldn’t do it just yet.

April 30, 2005 at 4:36 pmNo problems here so far with AJA io and FCP 4.5. New QT allows you to select multiple Audio inputs for recording but I haven’t fully tested yet. The HiDef material on Apple’s QT site is astonishing. The H264 codec is pretty amazing and HiDef material on a normal DVD is definitely viable; I now understand the thrust of DVD Studio 4. QT7 also allows simple capture from the AJA io but the interface is clunky and is more set up for working with iSight etc. I would be easy I suspect for a developer to make a very quick and easy capture app for video which simply wasn’t the case before QT7. I think we are going to see an explosion of little apps that exploit CoreVideo and CoreGraphics.
I’ve captured to FCP and layed back without problem using firmware 21-26; the new 22-27 firmware is still unstable IMHO.

May 3, 2005 at 4:00 pmSo when you go into Log and Capture you can select Video + 4 Channel Audio? Please explain this in greater detail. My company was just going to wait for a few months and get FCP5, but if we can easily get 4 Channels of Audio just by upgrading to QT Pro 7 that would be super cool.

May 3, 2005 at 5:07 pmNo I’m afraid not. Just tried it. You can choose Audio – 4 channel in the audio device set up window (ProIO in this case of course) but not in Log & Capture. Six weeks to wait for FCP 5.
