  • Quicktime 7 and FCP HD??

Posted by Colin Williams on May 7, 2005 at 4:14 pm

Was curious to know if anyone is having any issues with the new Quicktime and it’s compatibility with FCP. I may have discovered a bug with the new h.264 codec. Not sure. Maybe it’s a corrupted source file. I don’t know.

    Shed light please.

    Cheers,

    Colin

    Hey Colin,

Doing a test right now, from an 8bit timeline to h264 QuickTime conversion of a :30 second spot. Seems to be going alright, although pretty slow. Looks like it’s gonna take about 15 minutes on a G4 1.42 dual with 2 gigs of RAM, Tiger and QT 7 Pro.

A few minutes ago I tried doing a self-contained Quicktime and FCP shut down.

I’ll let you know what happens…

    Hmmm,

The resulting movie from my test was black. It took about 15 minutes. Something’s not right.

Tried another one and turned keyframing from the default 24 to automatic, and it worked. Only took about 6 minutes.

Yeah, i have some issues myseself with H264, 3mn clip stopped exporting (I left the office and back from lunch…. still the same !) but 30sec spots are ok.

Also i had FCP HD quitting without any reason a few times and some skipped frames in references files.

Thanks for your test. I went as far as trashing some of my source files that were in the sequence. My sequence was only a minute long. I’m wondering if something is corrupted in that particular project file that was initiated by the QT 7 install? Any other findings or possibilities?

    Thanks,
    Colin
