I’ve been paranoid about installing Quicktime 7 on my Premiere/AE system. However, lately it seems I’m being emailed QT7 files more and more, and copying them to another machine just to look at them is getting silly.
I can’t seem to find a simple answer about Quicktime 7’s compatibility with Premiere Pro 2 and After Effects 7. Does it work, and are there any issues I should be concerned about?

Seems to depend on the system.
I installed QT 7, and Premiere Pro 1.5, Photoshop and Encore DVD all stopped working.
But others have installed without incident.

I’m using QT6.5 with the production studio, I’ve got QT7.1 on a laptop I use for the internet with no problems, since the production studio only requires QT6.5 and there have been a bunch of horror stories I thought I would err on the side of caution.

I have 7.0.4 installed on both PCs, with no issues at all.

Can I ask what your system(s) specs are? I just can’t seem to find a definitive “it works if you do this/it doesn’t work if you have that” solution. Both Apple and Adobe are silent on this issue.

    Windows XP Pro
3GHz Intel with HT (about to be retired)
    Productions Studio

    Nothing fancy.

[Steven L. Gotz] “Windows XP Pro

The same here. Similar system, similar experience with QT 7.0.4.

Just be wary. There are a couple of gotchas with QT7. If we try to export an avi from a quicktime file it will repeat every 27th or 28th frame in the sequence, dropping the frame after. This may only be with PAL 25 fps sequences but I wouldn’t bet my life on it.
