quickie question
Posted by Suzin Daly on January 20, 2009 at 12:14 amI feel like I been a cheating wife, been on FCP for months. But back on Vegas (FCP doesn’t like these AVI, which are really premiere) Anyway, Is there a way to insert a clip like you would for FCP? I have to admit it can be a great time saver
FYI: Vegas is my favorite, I tell people you can throw the cat on the time line and it will play.Jill Simpson replied 17 years, 3 months ago 5 Members · 10 Replies -

January 20, 2009 at 2:42 amI’ve never used FCP so I don’t know what “insert a clip” you are referring to but watch this video tutorial that Sony just put out which shows the new trimmer functions and how you can insert a clip in the middle of an existing event. I think this might be what you are referring to:

Unfortunately i don’t know the procedure by which you
insert a clip in FCP…but describe the process and
then we can advise if a similar process is possible in Vegas.Steve Rhoden

January 20, 2009 at 2:05 pmJohn R sent me a tutorial that answered the question. What I wanted to know, how to insert a clip between two clips without that clip over lapping? If that not clear, when I drop a clip to the timeline I want a space to open up and allow a clip to drop in?
I still not sure if I am explaining it well enough. But the tutorial is very good. I use the trimmer already to preview clips. I think all is answered. Thank you for responding and poking around to help. I love this forum. It’s the best one around -

January 20, 2009 at 2:53 pmGreat! I thought that might be what you were talking about and it’s a new feature in Vegas Pro 8.0c which is not in Vegas Pro 8.0b or Vegas Pro 8.1 so not many people know about it yet.

January 20, 2009 at 3:42 pmI had to download the update. I was still on 8.b Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
One more question my show video frames button is greyed out. I can’t click on it. So is the external monitor button. I assumed that was because I do not have an external monitor hooked up.
But I would have thought I could click on the show video frames button to show frames in the wave form timeline. Is there something I need to do to set that up?

January 20, 2009 at 4:28 pmYou can first go into preferences and select the
preview device tab and select the IEEE device.
Then back in the trimmer window you first click on
the show video monitor button first.Steve Rhoden

January 21, 2009 at 5:48 pmAccording to the tutorial, when you insert a clip it will replace a portion on the timeline. Can it insert time first? In other words, can it insert without replacing?
The tutorial showed 3 variations, but never addressed this.
Thanks.
