    howdy folks

hey this isn’t an emergency…i was having some issues with the “out of memory” error…

i went thru the whole process…finally i deleted the preferences and cache…and it seemed to work.,..

my question is…why did this work ?

how does deleting the preferences and cache make everything work ?

    just a tech question…
if you don’t have time i understand

My uneducated guess is that the preference file gets corrupted somehow. One side note I picked up here on the cow is to make a copy of your preference files immediately after resetting everything and keeping it on a little flash drive. When I need to trash my prefs I just copy this “clean” preference file over. This way you don’t have to reset everything.

  • Another method is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.

Download these free Apple Scripts at
