Quick compression…
Help..!
We have numerous Final Cut suites producing ProRes sequences that need to be compressed down to any small Quicktime for script writing purposes.
This process is causing havoc, as the 56 min Prores timelines take hours to compress to a little motion jpeg or such like. This jams up the suites, and if we outsource this task to a node, it takes even longer.
Is there any quicker way of doing this? A hardware encoder, anything like that? The cheaper the better, the clip just acts as a visual reference for the writer….

It might not make too much difference but you’ll probably find using the H.263 (not H.264) codec quite a bit faster.
Other solutions (realtime and faster) are out there, depends on your budget..

Hmm, yes, been there, done that. We’re looking for something that can turn around in an hour or two. We’ve even considered dumping to an HDV deck via SDI and capturing that onto another machine…
We have to do this with two shows every week, so it a regular headache…
