I’m not sure this the the correct forum to post this question, if not please direct me to a better location.

I also know that asking legal advice on a web forum is not always the smartest thing to do, but here goes anyway.

I will be video streaming a live performance over the web. The singer will be doing Broadway classics. Here’s what I think I know:
It is streaming so I do not need mechanical rights

I do need to pay ASCAP or BMI or both for the performance rights for the songs.

I need to get the performers release to use their performance.

Do I need sync rights? The only visuals will be the singer performing it is not sync’ed to any other images.

    Thanks.

    Mark

I think you still need mechanical rights. Streaming is not immune. Ask any internet radio station.
