I’m a total novice with FCP and I’d appreciate any help on these questions.

I’m getting ready to edit 6 hours of interviews shot in 1080i HDV. I will be given a firewire deck which I’ll have overnight so that I can capture the film, but after that the deck must be returned.

    1. Should I convert the files to Prores for faster editing? Should I do that during or after the deck capture process (only have one firewire bus). I’ve got a 1TB FW800 drive to do my work on.

    2. I’ve experimented with some Prores files I made using compressor. They work much faster than HDV but i’ve noticed that after dragging them into the sequence, the entire clip requires rendering for the audio. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
