  • Questions on output quality (curious)

I have been using Vegas for Church Broadcasts using their pro-cameras recording to DVCAM and editing on my computer. Now I want to broaden my capabilities.I have a 1-3ccd prosumer-camera and 2-1ccd cameras and a DVCam Deck and access to an old BetaSP Deck.I am on a tight budget and will probably experiment on my self and my niece that sings. I may be able to spend 3-4000 on a good camera within a year. Right now I do not have much to spend on a camera and on my next purchase I want a good pro-dv camera (“Not another uncomfortable ball in my hand”).

When I look at MTV,BET,VH1 and others I see all of the videos and the quality at which they are made.

    Questions?

    1. Can I use Vegas with footage recorded with what I have and get acceptable quality to be played on MTV,BET or VH1. (I am talking about the technical side – not the acting and directing side)

    2. If So, how much better quality will Pro-DV Cameras have over 3ccd pro-sumer or 1ccd cameras.

The output quality of Vegas depends almost entirely on the quality of the input. Vegas is quite acceptable for broadcast work, in terms of its output quality.

A lot of the music videos you see were shot on film, not on video. It’ll be difficult to get the same quality with a prosumer (or even a professional) DV camcorder. However, a good 3-CCD prosumer DV camcorder (e.g., Sony VX-2100, Canon XL1s/XL2, Panasonic DVX-100) is capable of producing amazingly good results in the hands of a skilled operator who pays attention to lighting and composition.
