Questions – Editing SD and HD together
Creative Cow Users,
Ok, I’m editing in FCP, I have two sources of video, one that is 1440×1080 60i, 29.97, and it was shot HDV in the EX-3, and so my base time-line resolution is 16×9, but most of my cutaways are in DVC-Pro 50, or 4×3, 720×480. So, what I want to do is try and make the SD look as good as the HDV video or 16×9 video, so what I’ve done in the past is taken the 4×3 image, and dragged the image to be larger, so it fills the 16×9 window (upscale), then re-framed it, so it completely covers the frame, so I eliminate black bars on the sides, as well as adding a “sharpen filter” and do some extra color correction, to make the colors pop a little bit more. Now, I’m not saying that this is the best way, but now with a new project underway, I’m in a time-crunch, and most of my cutaways are in 4×3, what should I do, and what other ideas do you have with this, making SD look like HD? Or what you’ve done in the past.
Thanks,
Tom
