Question / Workflow
A little long, but thanks for reading….
Alright, so here is whats happening…. I can’t transfer projects to different HD without running into some problems
Work Flow
Canon 7d ==> Files transfer into folder on external HD ==> open FCPX ==> Create new event ==> I do not have FCPX copy files to event ==> I do not have FCPX create proxy file OR optimize media. ==> I bring everything straight in.
Next
I follow the steps to “take my project on the road”
I tell FCPX to move the event folder to my new Ext HD
Then
I drag the project folder over to the new Ext HD
then
I drag the folder with all the footage saved on it onto the new Ext HD
THEN…..
I open FCPX….. it won’t open my project but instead says i have a duplicate of it and says i need to remove the duplicate event (there is no duplicate event in the folder) *Nor do i have the other Ext HD connected
or
It does open and half the footage is offline
or
It does open and FCPX can’t find anything on the Ext HD for events
I talked with Apple tech support and the guy said this was happening because I did not have FCPX save the files into FCPX as well I didn’t create optimized media for the project which he said would cause me all sorts of problems.
So…….
What are you thoughts on this.
Do you optimize your media?
Do you copy files into FCPX event?
Do you have this problem with moving projects?
