  • Question to LUT and Sony Vegas

Posted by Petr Berger on April 30, 2011 at 4:21 pm

I just uploaded Technicolor picture style to my Canon 5D and Technicolor is recommending: “utilizing a S-curve shaped look-up table (LUT) in your editing or color correction application. You may download such a LUT using the links provided. If your editing or color correction application does not offer the ability to import and use LUTs, other controls like the ASC CDL, Lift/Gamma/Gain, or Offset/Power/Slope can be used to color correct the image.”

Its possible ulilize this in Sony Vegas where I’m doing my color correction in Magic Bullet Mojo and Magic Bullet Looks? (I have to admit I dont even know what LUT is, but I want to learn more about it :)) So what would you recommend for Sony Vegas and Magic Bullet?

No, as far as I know you can’t import these. Both Sony Vegas and Magic Bullet have Color Curves so you can do this yourself simply by making the curve manually. You would have to adjust the S-Curve to look good with your footage anyway depending on the lighting conditions to are shooting under.

Only make the S-curve manually? Ok, thanks 🙂 I thought its more complicated than that 🙂

Not really. Just place the Sony Color Curves on an event and make an S like this:

You’ll need to tweak it to your liking but what you want to do is crush the blacks and whites.

Yes, Magic Bullet has a Curves FX in the Tools section under the Subject, Camera, and Post tabs. Like this:

    maybe this helps some people:-

there is a *.veg file on the net that you can download and open in vegas.
If you go to “track effects” and “sony color curves” you’ll see an s curve to correct technicolor cinestyle already loaded. (there’s n footage in this file but the preset is set for the video track)
Just save it as a preset in vegas and then you have the curve for all time!
    The link is

    cinestyle preset vegas file

I don’t use this style because it makes skin too orange. I may not really understand it.
