  • Question RE: “File>Import XDCAM Proxy”…

Posted by Eric Johnson on June 5, 2012 at 3:38 am

I doing some tests to educate myself on AVID/XDCAM and I am seeing a discrepancy between the documentation and what I am seeing in the AVID UI/File bar options….

In all of the documentation that I’m looking at, as provided by Sony & Avid, there is supposedly an “Import XDCAM Proxy” option under the File menu…. except on the 3 Avids that I’ve looked at apparently (Symphony v6.0.1.1, MC6.x and MC5.5.3)… Any thoughts?

Also, I have the “Automatically import Proxy…” checked in the Import settings… but all that is doing is an AMA import from the XDCAM disk in the PDW-U1… less than helpful.

I would appreciate any help…. This seems to be oddly difficult, and I’m not sure why…

Go into your AMA settings and turn off AMA. Restart your Avid. When it boots back up, you’ll get the option for import P2 and import XDCAM.

I may have missed something, but I see no “on/off” for AMA under settings…

    Also Eric,

Since I noticed your based in Los Angeles, if you’re about to go into an XDCAM edit, you might want to contact Fotokem. I don’t actually work for Fotokem, but the show I’m working on is renting systems from them, and they gave us this ingest system with a proprietary ingest software that allows us to bring in either the proxy or the proxy and the full res XDCAM clip, rewraps it as MXF media, and assigns it a reelname. You can bring in two XDCAM discs at one time without tying up your Avid transcoding. Seriously a great system.
