Question on “workflow”
Hi all.
I’m fairly self taught so I’d figured I would ask some pros about this.
I’ve done two music videos that were after effects heavy. I do the clip editing in Premiere and FX work in After Effects. Nothing fancy.
I do one Premiere file and one After Effects file with tons of comps.
Anyway, towards the end of the projects AE starts spiking up in usage like crazy and I can’t figure out why. It’ll just to like 74% and bounce around – it really impacts my ability to work on the videos when I spend half the time fighting the program.
Anyone else run into this? Are there some settings I can change?
Also sometimes Premiere will lose the rendered file status so I have to re-render everything again. That hurts in time as well.
I’ve got 16 gigs of RAM and RAM isn’t spiked. Currently everything is on a single disk and I do plan to pick up more to split the rendering disk costs down but yeah…

I still find it more practical and fast to create separate AE comps for each of my FX shots.

Different comps or files?
I use different comps for each clip that was originally based in premier.
One AE file – IE AtlasCC.fileextension.
I think I probably could have pre-rendered sunflare thing I did that was CPU intensive but I still don’t get why AE and Premier would just randomly start spiking the CPU usage.

My workflow: in Premiere right click on clip and replace with AE comp. Do my AE work and render out, go back in Premiere and replace my AE comp in the timeline with the rendered piece.
Make sure that you flush the cache once in a while.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

Thanks, I’ve never flush my cache, so that’s probably it. I’ll try that next time it gets flaky.
