  • Question on video capture

Hi, I’ve been using Ulead media pro for capture.I switched to premiere pro. In ulead you can capture in either mpeg 1 or mpeg 2. In premiere my only option is microsoft dv. I did some tests and in ulead a 14 second clip was about 4 meg. Capturing the same clip in premiere is around 35 meg.

So my questions become does premiere come with only that one codec for capture?

can you get or buy other codecs for capture?

Lastly, I’m doing a family video of about 45 minutes in length. Using Encore I have to deliver a complete movie. Having clips that are 10 to 15 seconds in length is a pant full of clips.

In ulead I would take a edited segment and output it to movie and then bring back each completed segment into dvd creator.
It seemed to work with no discernable loss of quality and it was a lot easier.

Using Premiere and encore I have to deliver a single complete movie.Would I be better off just doing the complete movie in premiere or can I do segements, create movies from them, and then bring the segments back into Premiere to create the completed movie?

I apprecite any help and hope I made sense.

    Thanks, Adele

Capture & edit in dv format because PremPro is not an mpeg editor. (You will get issues if you try to edit mpegs)

Workflow with Encore :Many ways to do this but…

For me, I edit and complete work in PremPro ( export an avi movie)

I then have an option of Converting the avi to an mpeg (Mainconcept Encoder) or importing the avi as an asset firectly into Encore.

Encore can work with both (plus QT). Advantages to both methods. I prefer to take an mpeg into Encore because I can check it first and that eliminates one step of problem solving if they occur in the process.
