Activity Forums Web Design (WordPress, Joomla, etc.) Question on Forums ?

  • Posted by Burriedcreativity on May 5, 2005 at 9:51 am

    Hello Everybody,

What are the benefits of having your own Forum on technical issues like say web Design or something like that? As I know there are plenty out there.

And secondly how someone should promote his forum across the world (not a table off-course)?

Does this idea will help me in getting more freelancing stuff?

    Thnx for your time

    hello…

if you have traffic and visitors willing to post, then having your own forum is nice because you can use it to show people that you know what you’re talking about – good resume material…but having a dead forum is pretty useless, and as you note, there are a lot of forums out there, so just putting a new one up won’t likely result in the desired traffic…

promoting a forum is hard – the best way would be other forums, but you’ll get banned if you go to somebody else’s forum and try to get people to come to your own…so it’s sort of a chicken/egg thing, unfortunately. forum traffic is often built by either word-of-mouth or advertising, so those would be the best way to go about it. but it’s hard even then because if somebody comes to a dead forum, they’re likely to not post…so you’d have to build it up with colleagues and friends first to make it look alive and then start trying to get the word out…

    hello…

this has been a long-time belief of mine, but i still say that if you want to study anything about the web, you should start at the source. if you want to get very technical about stuff like the 216 color palette and theory and that sort of thing, then there are certainly books that will tackle that for you, but if you just want to see what good design is, you have the world at your fingertips (literally)…try some inspiration sites like:

    https://www.cwd.dk
    https://coolhomepages.com

if you browse there. you’ll see a bunch of really cool design that might get the creative juices flowing…and on a plus side, it’s free…

    hello…

not really, no, outside of the traditional ones like not using neon and that sorta thing…usually sites will play off of some complimentary color to their logo – that’s a great place to start…

but i often find people saying that it matters most for a designer to go with a color scehme as per the industry for which you are designin ?

Thats why i am after a specific documentation for colors which represents specific industry color needs ?

    Thank you.

    hello…

if that’s the goal then the best thing to do is survey the competitors and others in the space for whatever industry you’re in. there really isn’t a color guide for industries. there are certainly design goals, and the simple rule for those is the bigger the client, the classier the design. simple sounding, but hard to reproduce. if you’re doing a site for a fortune 500 company, you have a lot bigger audience to impress and a much different set of marketing goals than you might have for a small business on the corner. that dictates very different design and sometimes different color schemes, but there’s no set rules for color for any type of company…

Well, different colors invoke different chemical and physical responses from our body. There are whole books on the color pallettes of each. But basically you can figure them out for yourself. Romantic is pastels, edgy would be blacks, reds, oranges, etc. Earthly tones like cool blues and greens are trusting.

My client recently gave me a book to try and pick the right color pallette, but we ended up letting the photographer borrow it, otherwise I’d have the title for you.

wait, just found it on amazon – pretty good book but it’s just going to leave you with zillions of choices.
