Question on FCP to CS5.5

After reading and watching most of the info here on the COW I have 3 questions to pose and hope someone would be kind enough to answer.

1. I have lots of SD and HDV footage and know that I can import it to PP. from my file system. But can I import into PP from the Deck/ Camera if I lose the scratch disc without having to get a capture card?

2. In the video I’v watched it says that PP automatically saves changes (the number of undos) based on how much memory you have. Can we set that level in the preferences for example so we don’t keep using more memory?

3. In FCP when I use Motion or STP I always save my timeline before sending it over, which allows me to do do a revert when back in FCP if things don’t go right. Is there a similar feature in PP.

Regarding undoing actions and reverting, see this page:
“Correcting mistakes”.

I find that saving and then using the File > Revert command comes in handy when I’m fiddling around and know that I’m going to want to try a few things out before committing.

What video told you that the number of undo steps was determined dynamically by available memory? I am not aware of any such behavior. The number of undo steps preserved is 32.

The video in question was on the Adobe site under FCP to CS5. It was skipped over rather quickly and just part of an overview, I don’t know exactly which one it is on among the 6, I would have to review them all again about an hour.

Thanks for your response on the revert issue, I knew it was probably there, just wasn’t sure. I also found out that SD and HDV can be imported without a capture card. The video I use now is AVCAM so I only need the Quadro 4000 to make the switch in terms of hardware.

I was thinking of going to CS 5 since the release of mercury playback and now I’ll do so especially with the discount.
