Question on DVD 4
Posted by Thomas Quinn on September 18, 2006 at 8:57 pmJust wondering does anyone know if DVDA4 or any other windows DVD authoring software have this feature I have seen on Apple DVD studio pro when a finished DVD is inserted in a player and a chapter selected when you go to play it does not go immediately to the clip selected but has a 2-3 second transition effect and then plays the clip selected. hope I have explained this ok

September 19, 2006 at 1:41 amNot at this time. It’s really a simply a matter of playing two video clips back to back. The first being the “transition” and the second being the actual video. So you point the button to the transition. Then using the “End Action”, you point the transition to go to the actual video after it’s finished.
I’ll add it to the list for a future issue.

September 19, 2006 at 9:34 pmEdward thanks for your replys I am not sure I have described properly what I am trying to achive so I will give it another go
I have a DVD in my player with a motion background on this background is 4 buttons with the desired clips I select any button the buttons all fade from the screen leaving the motion background for approx 2 seconds this then fades to black and the clip selected fades in this is all done on pro studio with little effort.

September 19, 2006 at 10:21 pmWell, I think I’ve described the process fairly well. When you push the button, it starts playing a video clips. THIS VIDEO CLIP will start as an image of the screen, let the buttons fade away, show the background for two seconds, and then fade to black. Now you “End Action” from that intermediate video to the real video and you’re done. But YOU have to create that intermediate video.
Now I know that DVD A 4 has added some new button features but I’m not fully up to speed on DVD A 4 (I’ve been busy on other things such as getting Excalibur compatible with Vegas 7). You can check to see if they might help you without requiring the intermediate video. However, the above procedure WILL work in version 2 of DVD A forward.

September 20, 2006 at 6:21 pmI think what Thomas is asking for, which I know DVD 3 and earlier don’t do, is have automatic premade menu transitions. Stuff like having a curtain do a wipe transition over the menu as it goes to the selected video. Sure you can make all these in your editing program, render them out, and do as jeditdv suggests, but that is a lot more effort than checking a box that says “curtain wipe”. Kinda like all the premade transitions in Vegas. Sure you could manually make some of them by doing a timeline and keyframing a mask, but wouldn’t you rather just drag and drop the wipe transition?
So far I haven’t seen anything like that added in DVD 4 (just the demo). Simple stuff like having the menu fade out should have been a no brainer for them to add.

September 22, 2006 at 11:46 pmEdward again thank you for your patients I am getting a sort of what I want using your method LynxFX described it better than me maybe I am using the wrong terms. I will have another go before I give up on this, Lets say my background media was black with white letters counting down from 10 to 1 what I want is when I hit play at say no 5 my buttons fade away the countdown contuines for 2 seconds and does not jump to 10 as it links to the transition clip is what I want in DVDA
