    hi everyone,

I’ve got the levels of my audio track (someone speaking) averaging at around -12db.

Before I render and finalize for authoring, is there some sort of normalization/processing/effect I should apply?

    Cheers,
    Gilles

If it’s only one audio track and it only reached -12dB then right click on the audio event, switches, and click normalize. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

    It’s a couple of audio tracks…

any way to normalize the Master? Is it wise to normalize the master?\

If you are doing a lot of stuff I would HIGHLY recommend investing in Izotope Ozone….it is AWESOME and has a ton of presets. I put it on my audio master track, AFTER I an happy with a mix…sounds amazing!

Thanks Scott, I’ll give Izotope a look.

What about any native ways to “master”?

    tips/tricks?

Mastering involves EQ’ing, leveling and loudness maximizing (and placement enhancing if in 5.1). You can use some of those tools in Vegas…but to be honest…it takes a little bit of time and a lot of practice. I have owned a audio studio for 13 years and started video in 2000, I find that it is nice to have a “quick fix” if you will when it involves a couple of tracks for video and such….if I am mastering an audio CD or video concert…it takes hours and multiple hardware and software plug-ins..I also take it to a different studio than my own so I am not “tricked” by using the same speaker set-up as my mix. Just so you know this is a “whole new can of worms” that you are opening depending on your end product…. hope this helps and good luck!
