  • Question for John Rofrano: Gearshift & Ultimate S

I use Ultimate S Pro 4.1 for multi-cam edits quite regularly. Before enabling it, HDV previews like butter on my system (1 time line) on any preview setting, but after enabling multi-cam (4 time lines), I typically have to reduce the preview to draft full to get smooth preview performance. I would like to preview in best since each time line is now reduced to a quarter of a screen (on my external monitor).

Will Gearshift work in such a multi-cam situation, allowing me to use a much higher preview rate? I typically don’t use the media bin and import directly to the time line. Will Gearshift work on multiple time lines?

    Intel i7 920, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Yes, GearShift will work but you don’t need to buy it if you already have Ultimate S Pro. The Render tab in Ultimate S Pro can be used to create your DV Widescreen proxies and the Media Swapper on that same tab will swap between HD and DV and back again. So no need to buy GearShift if you already have Ultimate S Pro. You already have everything you need.
