    Hi guys,

my old boss is running FCP on imac and having played on it it seems to work fine……so i have decided to buy one just to learn the basics….. and maybe once i have mastered it upgrade to a full on G5 fully speced

The machine I have bought is the followig and for what i want i think this is fine, –

    Mac G5 1.8Ghz 1.25GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Superdrive

Once i have the other it would be nice to keep this as a play / donkey work machine for the cheap projects we get in…..

My question is can i hang additional storage on the back of this to open up the storage…… and if so any hints or tips would be wonderfull

    thank you in assistance…

sure… the least expensive additional storage option is probably a second SATA drive inside your G5. It’s a snap to put in, and will support 8 bit uncompressed and lower resolutions…

A SATA array is probably the next best solution or a FW800 array. I really like the G-Raids for this… Up from there cost wise and speed wise would be SCSI 320 or (better yet) Fibre Channel arrays… Both of these would involve buying a host adapter card for your G5. ATTO technologies is the place to look for these, and I like Huge Systems for the array…

If it’s an iMac, a SATA RAID is not an option, but you’ll be able to add as many FW disks as you can possibly eat. (I’ve had 10 at the worst. Not adviceable… -;)
