Question for experts!
Posted by Bob Tanner on December 24, 2008 at 9:59 pmI want to create a shot where I pan the camera from right to left and have houses and cars disappear. I know to have something disappear, but thats without moving the camera.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Do you have an example to better explain your end goal?
As far as animating the camera, if you’re in 3D space just add a camera and animate the rotation properties. It also might help to turn off auto orientation. CMND-Option-O (Or Ctrl-Alt-O on Windows).
If you’re in 2-D space, you can parent everything to a null and animate that.
(Disclaimer: it’s late, I don’t have AE in front of me and I just had my wisdon teeth taken out.)
CS3, FCS2
[Note: Using Particular, 3-D Stroke, and now Form do not instantly make your designs “teh awesome.”] -

December 27, 2008 at 4:30 pmSorry, let me explain myself better. I want to take a real HD Camera and film a street with cars and houses and pan from right to left and have the cars and houses disappear. Btw, I’m pretty new to After Effects. Thanks!

One of the best ways I’ve found to do as described above is to take a high-res still with your digital camera. Leave it sitting on the tripod for however long it takes for the action to happen, and take another picture, then pan that in AE, instead of “real” panned footage. It’s a lot easier to duplicate your motion, if you’re low-budget like me.
