    Chris,

    I just read your tutorial:

“Really? Capture HDV to ProRes in FCP? Over FireWire?! Yes!”

I’ve been trying to do this because I shot some HDV green screen interviews. I followed all of the steps and got to the point to where I am ready to capture. When I go to log and capture, the HDV capture window comes up and I name my clip.

Then when I hit “capture” – my camera starts up and plays the footage. But the capture window in FCP stays blank and just says “CUEING TAPE (press ‘esc’ to stop)

    Nothing is capturing.

I’m using a Sony V1U, and I also tried using a Sony HDV deck with the same results.

    Any suggestions?

    Brian

    Hey Brian,

I used a Canon A1 and I have to manually start the camera before hitting the capture button, try that.

Also, If your camera is like mine, it needs to be set to HDV in the playback standard in the VCR menu. My camera defaults to “auto” which will not work.

    HTH…

    Have a wonderful day.

Thanks Chris. I just trashed my FCP prefs and then it worked.

For others: I was having the “cueing tape” problem too, but fixed it on my sony HDV deck by switching the i.Link Conv option to off in the deck menu.

    doh.
