I love your video tutorials, but please tell me why have you moved from Quick time to Flash format???

I love the .mov files, I know flash files can be smaller, but I still prefer the .mov ones, they are a lot more reliable

    Just my opinion.

I started off using 3D studio Max, but soon found that a lot of the work in NY was based in Maya. So, I took it upon myself to learn maya, through books, the cow maya forum and a basic intro course at pratt in NY. Eventually I got really good at it, and started to teach it, and I did that for several years, while working during the days as an animator at different post houses.

The secret is though that I never loved maya. It can do some really complex things, but the simple things were also more complex than they needed to be. Plus Alias support wasn’t great.

When I started my own company, I started to look for a better option. I went to NAB – and saw a demo of Maxon C4D and mograph. Doing basic motion graphics related stuff, which is a lot of what I do, seemed really easy, and they have LIVE support that doesn’t cost anything extra. That’s right it’s free and it’s a person on the phone with you.

    Can’t argue with that.

I only use a 3D app when I have to, and Until C4D can’t do something I need it to, (which I doubt will happen) I’ll stick with it.

Flash is on virtually every computer that accesses the web. It’s the best format for reaching the most people.

I’ve gotten complaints that the quicktime files are too big, or that people get a broken Q on their screen.

And also since 75% of the people that visit the Cow do so on PCs, it just makes sense to use a format like Flash which is on most every PC and Mac — unlike Quicktime which is only on just a percentage of PCs.

    Best regards,

If you’re on a PC a good little (free) flv player is FLV Player:

Okay, I don’t mind Flash format, myself… but can you make an easily downloadable link to grab the tutorial, or have you, and I’m missing it? I’ve not only have learned so much from your videos (thank you!), but also have really enjoyed your presentation, and like to watch some over from time to time to refresh myself mid-project. I know how to “snag” the SWF, but always feel a little dirty… (OK, I’m kidding)

Thank you for this thorough full answer. I think also that all my work in Cinema till now was more joyful than in Maya. I think Cinema 4D has a very good modelling tool and can do almost everything like Maya except brushes- artisan, ocean shader and Final Gather but somehow it is possible to compensate it. You helped mi determine my mind a lot.

The funny thing is i started with Maya but i also “never fell in love” with Maya and didn’t enjoy working in 3D. But i fell in love with C4D and really start enjoying C4D. I hope that C4D will have all the features of Maya but still with the C4D workflow. I would like to see Paint Effects in Cinema4D and fluids. I

That would really be great if we were able to save the video tutorials, can it be done?
