    Footage is 720 24p.

When I look at inspection of footage either in FCP 7 or QT, it shows up as 960 x 720.
but sometimes the footage ends up 1280 x720.
When I see the output though it somehow becomes 1280 x 720 but not consistently.

    Any thoughts?

960×720 is anamorphic HD. Typically found in DVCPRO HD footage. FCP unsqueezes it so you see it full frame. And if you export as ProRes. Or H.264 as 720p it’ll come out full frame 1280×720.
