Question about Used Mac G5
I have the opportunity to purchase a used Mac G5, dual 1.8 ghz, 1 tb hard drive with 2 gb ram memory for about $400.00. This comes with an Apple 17″ flat screen monitor as well.
It is in great working condition. I know this is an older machine. My question is: Is this good enough, powerful enough to run fcp studio 2? What is the most you would pay for this setup? Would I be better off using this money for a mac pro setup?

$400 is too much for that computer. It will run FCP, DVD SP, and Soundtrack just fine, but color and motion will be iffy at best.
Obviously it is a really slow machine by today’s standards so rendering will take forever. For cuts only editing you’d be fine.
I wouldn’t spend more than $200 on this. Saving for a Mac Pro would be much, much better as G5 1.8 is probably 7 or 8 year old tech now. Even a 1st gen Mac Pro is almost 5 years old.

If you were to buy a used mac at this time to run fcp studio 2 or 3, and wanted to spend between $500.00 and $800.00 what would you recommend?
Any suggestions on where to find a good used fcp mac?
