Is it possible to create your own lower-thirds, import them into Ultimate S, and then use them from the Lower-Thirds tab?

[Ron Whitaker] “Is it possible to create your own lower-thirds, import them into Ultimate S, and then use them from the Lower-Thirds tab?”

Funny you should ask… We are looking at adding this capability into a refresh of Ultimate S Pro. Our Production Assistant plug-in already does this. All I can say is that it’s doesn’t do this now but it might in the near future. 😉

    The question for you is:

How would you like to create your own lower thirds? Would they be .veg files like we currently use? Would they be QuickTime mov files? How are you thinking it might work?

I would like to see this too. For me they would be used both ways, .mov with an alpha channel and .veg with without the size issues.

    John:

    Thanks for your reply.

I might also add I’d like to see that capability in Lite as well, since that’s what I’m thinking of getting.

As far as how I’d create lower thirds: if it accepted .veg files, that would be great. The one I have now in my projects for my website was created in Photoshop CS5. As I recall, you can save them out as .avi files, or maybe it’s .mov. That could be another option.

Yes, if we update we would update both to keep them in synch.

Yes, the way it currently works is all of the lower thirds are delivered as .veg files. We give you the option of re-rendering them for better performance to QuickTime Animation .mov files preserving the Alpha Channel. So Ultimate S Pro/Lite and Production Assistant already support .veg and .mov. What we added to Production Assistant was the ability to create your own thirds (which could be as simple as modifying one of ours and saving under a different name) and place them in a folder (.\VASST\GrafPaks\User) under your Documents folder and Production Assistant picks them up automatically as User Defined Lower Thirds. This is what we’re considering adding back to Ultimate S Pro/Lite in the next update.

Great! That’s what we’re thinking too (see other post for details)

    That sounds great!

Should I wait to purchase Ultimate S, or wait for the new update to come out?
