  • Question about Travel Matte on FCP X

Posted by Jay Craig on December 7, 2011 at 3:40 pm

I’m trying to use the Travel Matte effect in FCP X. I have it set to the max font size but its still not big enough.. I want the words to cover the whole screen. Can some one help me achieve this goal?

    Thx in advance

Need more information. You’re trying to make text to use as a travel matte, and you can’t make the text large enough, is that right? So the problem is with the text, yes?

Try double-clicking the text size value and scrolling up the mouse. Usually Motion values can go quite a bit higher than the slider values.

Also you can use distort function in the viewer to stretch out the text somewhat.

    All the best,

    Tom

You might find this template that I made recently useful for what you are trying to do:

And see this video for some tips on how to use it:

Try this new version of my Text Matte Effect which does what you need – you can also animate the offset of the text now.

The issue is you were having is to do with how the margins are set-up in the template. They need be be very wide to be able to get really big text.
