  • Question about the “Levels” plugin

    Hi all,

Sometimes when I have an overblown clip I will lower the “Output End” to 100 (I use the waveform for calibration) so that there won’t be any clipping. I will do the same if I have superblacks by setting the Output Start to 0.

Now, and here is the strange part, if I want to brighten the mid-range of the picture by either staying in the Levels or by adding a Color Curve two things can happen

    A) If I bring the brightness up by adjusting the curve the ceiling, so to speak, remains at a 100

    B) I do the same but it is as if I didn’t set the “Output end” because the brightness just keeps on getting higher.

Now it really seems to be happening at random, sometimes it does A and sometimes it does B. Sometimes I already have plugins applied and sometimes there isn’t any.

    Why is this happening?

    Thanks

I have this all the time as well. What I do is use a combination of levels and curves. Levels comes first in the chain.
I set the levels to 100 and 0 and then go over and do some finer adjustments with the curves. That sometimes brings the levels back up over 100 at times then it’s necessary to go back to the levels and bring it down a bit.
