  • Question about Smart Resample / Disable Resample for Input/Output with the same FPS

Posted by Deledi Bingham on June 16, 2013 at 2:46 am

    Hello,

I record game footage using a live gamer HD capture card in 1080p @ 30FPS. I then render that footage to an .mp4 file with the same settings. (1080p @ 30FPS)

When I render files there is ghosting/motion blur in the footage. Using the “disable resample” option in each video event fixes this ghosting effect but my understanding was that “smart resample” only affects the rendered file when the source/output have different frame rates.

Why would rendering a 30FPS file to another 30FPS file try to merge/add any frames at all?

I thought the issue might be because my footage is actually recorded in 29.97FPS but even when I change the render/project settings to 29.97FPS the same ghosting/motion blur effect remains.

Here are 2 screenshots at the same time from the project with resample enabled and disabled.

Ideally I would just like to record at the exact frame rate I am rendering to so that I never have to mess with the resample settings at all and there will be no ghosting / motion blur.

I’d just leave it disabled. There are no advantages to resampling when rendering gameplay.

Just Disable Resampling completely on all your renders.
There is a script available that simply disables resampling
in every event on the timeline with just one click, i use it
when im done editing and ready to render.
I can send it to you if you like.

Well it’s not a big deal to select all events with shift click and disable resample I was just curious as to why it does it in the first place since the frame rate stays the same.

    It just does it none-the-less.
