    hi all,

i’m thinking about buying some extra RAM for my intel (which i’ve yet to purchase); wondering whether to buy it from apple or another vendor. Apple has this little blurb on their site.

“Apple created a more robust thermal specification for the Mac Pro FB-DIMM heat sinks that provide more efficient cooling than many other FB-DIMMs.”

Has anyone out there used any other RAM besides apple and had any problems? Or is apple just trying to get you to buy their RAM?

owc.com usually has good ram prices, they test their products on mac and certify that it meets or exceeds apple’s standards.

crucial.com is a good source for ram, they actually make the ram chips, not just the modules, so you can be sure that all the ram you buy from them has matching chips. and they will be cheaper than apple.

yea I bought 8GB for my mac pro, and 1GB for macbook pro from crucial and it works perfectly. As far as I know apple uses micron ram which is actually the same as crucial – except crucial is less than half price!
