  • Question about Playback Pro

Posted by James Dow on March 10, 2010 at 2:23 pm

I do a lot of FCP editing of pieces for meeting playback. Lately I have switched from DVCPro tape playback to HD files off of my MacBook Pro. We usually go through a switcher/scaler that is DA’d to several projectors. I’ve been reading a lot of good things here about Playback Pro. Do I need to pop for the full blown purchase version, or is the free download enough to get me by?

    Thanks,
    James

Playback Pro doesn’t have a free version; without the enabler key, it watermarks the output.

I also think it’s absolutely worth the price. It’s built very well, and has everything you’d need for live playback. If you’re doing a good deal of on-site playback, your rental fee will pay for it very quickly.

I will second that advice. We just rented the Playback Pro for a live event and it worked flawlessly. We were playing back 720P HD ProRes off of firewire 800 drives. Saved a bunch of time not having to make tape masters.
