Question about keeping project files/event files/libraries when reinstalling Final Cut X.

What does ‘I am avoiding the app store’ mean? Updating there would make the most sense if you have a legit license.

In any case- reinstalling FCPX doesn’t affect your existing projects existence. But of course they will definitely need to be upgraded to the 10.1 format. Here’s what to keep in mind about that: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT5958

Your effects will be fine, just make sure they’re all updated. Most settings will remain, some may need to be redone, your share settings will remain. Updating Projects and Events is straightforward, but it’s really important to understand what is happening as once updated, there’s no turning back. I’d recommend reading as much as you can about the process before you begin. I wrote up a little piece here:
