Question about HVX200 editing set up
This may be a stupid question, but I would rather ask it here than risk getting duped by a dealer.
I want to set up a whole new Mac editing set up around my new HVX200. I’m going to upgrade
to a new Mac G5 and edit using Final Cut Pro. My question is, is that all I need for the best resolution
and video capture? I mean, do I need a special HD card to pull my HD video from the P2 cards in order
to get an uncompressed 10 or 8 bit resolution? Or, is taking the video straight from the P2 card from
the HVX200 via firewire as good as the resolution can get?
I guess what I’m really asking is can I edit at the 10 bit uncompressed setting with a special capture card
or is this a moote point with the DVCPro HD codec, and firewire is all I need? -

Can’t capture it any better than DVCPRO HD. You can finish in a higher format, if your client requires it. But with the aid of a good capture card (Kona 3) you don’t need to work with any better format than DVCPRO HD.
Just get a Mac Pro, a bunch of internal drives for the sleds and work away.

Needs to be updated for FCP 5.1.2, but it is still valid on a lot of points.
