  • Question About HD compression for dvd

I have an FCP timeline that is DVCPROHD10860i. I need to export the footage to standard ef so it can be put on DVD. I was going to just export it using the same codec and bring it into after effects and just shrink it down ( i need it to be letterboxed) and then from there use that to compress on dvd. Well, I tried it and it looks like crap. My footage has motion and it becomes pixelated. HELP PLEASE!!! What should I do to get letterboxed footage of good quaity? Thanx in advance for your replies.

    Dear Q,

Your thinking is a bit off on this, and you’re doing way too many steps. All you need to do is encode using one of the DVD presets in Compressor, making sure to check the anamorphic 16×9 box. This will yeild a DVD that will play 16×9 full screen on a 16×9 TV, and letterboxed 16×9 on a 4×3 TV.

    Good luck,
    DRW
