Question about FCE
I’m looking at getting a Final Cut Express System to be used primarily as an EDL Station for our producers ratrher then using HD Logger like we do now or going with a Full FCP station.
I have a couple of question…
1) A 800Mhz G4 Quick Silver with 512MB of Ram should be fine for this, correct.
2) What compatability issues are there between FCE and FCP. EX. if we create a segment in FCP and want to open it in FCE to render it out, burn a DVD or minor revision will there be a problem with and effects that we used or anything.
3) What option do I have to get Timecode into the system (to do and EDL from) short of getting and AJA or Blackmagic I/O device. We would be worhing from D9, Beta SP and Mini DV. ( Iknow the Mini DV would go Firewire, but what about the other 2)?
We are digitizing or outputing to tape from this system mainly just EDLing.

That’s a marginal system with minimum RAM spec. Not really recommended. That said the application is not suitable for what you want to do. It has no logging functions. It has no batch list, XML, or EDL export. FCE will not normally open FCP project files.

So there is no logging functions, strange. I figured it would have at least that.
To capture footage you have to just do a capture now?

Batch Capture Fix for FCE: I have my students log in and out points then select clip. Then when the capture begins I have them hit escape which cancels the capture and places the offline clip in the bin. After they have done this with all their footage they select all the offline clips and press capture project. With 20 kids in 5 classes and only 5 imacs we don’t have enough space for all raw footage to be captures. Plus the student does not have to sit there for real time capture saving precious time.
