  • Question About Dynamic Link

Can you tell me the easiest way to make new, alternate versions of projects I’ve edited in Premiere and AE and preserve the ability to keep the NEW alternate versions linked to each other and not the old versions? Sounds confusing because I’m probably not doing a good job explaining my question. Here’s an example…

Say I edit a commercial for a client and there’s tons of linked AE comps in my premiere timeline. Then, a week later, the client wants to change the offer from a free trial to a “…3 easy payments of something or other…” Now they want to keep the old version intact for future use and editable, etc. I’d like to be able to “save as” my premiere proj with a new name and “save as” my AE proj with a new name and have these two new projs linked dynamically. But…when I do, the new “saved as” premiere proj is still looking at the AE comps from the old AE proj. What’s the best/easiest way for me to update the links? Does that make any sense?

    Thanks!!!!

I’m not sure i understand your question correctly, but do you have “Dynamic link with After Effects uses project file with highest number” turned on in AE?

I think the easiest way to achieve that is to duplicate your comp in AE and make your changes, import that Comp using Dynamic Link into PPro, duplicate your PPro sequence, and drop in the new Dynamic Linked AE Comp in PPro. Next time you open that Sequence, it will have the new AE Comp and all your other Comps and Sequences will be intact.
    Good Luck!
