Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Question about DVD Burning

  • Question about DVD Burning

Posted by James Moser on September 12, 2006 at 2:24 am

I have a quick question for everyone here. I’m new to the forum and I didn’t find it posted anywhere so if this is a repeat ? I apologize. Anyway I am in the middle of editing my first feature length film in Vegas (version 5.0) and I have an extremely good- but really long- fight scene that I am working on. I want to know if there is some way to take that footage and burn just that on a dvd without having to burn the entire project thus far. I’m also looking for a way to avoid having to redo the ENTIRE thing as a new project. Any ideas? It wouldn’t be that big of a deal but it’s almost thirty minutes long and I need to had it over to a friend of mine who is a director and get his opinion on where to trim. Thanks guys…and I’m loving the forum thus far.

Either highlight the selected area or put markers at the beginning and end of it and double click to highlight it.
When you go to render, make sure you click the box that says “Render loop region only” and you’re all set.

After I render this file what happens to it? Sorry about being a bother guys I just haven’t done a PART of the movie before and I was wondering what would happen to the footage saved? Is it saved in the folder I designate as an mpeg1 or whatever and the veg file stay the same in the larger file? Thanks for the answer and I appreciate ALL the help.

When you bring up the render window, it asks you where you want to save it to.
If you’re like me, you create a new folder for each project and then create new folders in the master folder for items such as veg files, captured video, music, graphics, rendered files, etc.
You only rendered out a portion of the master file so that’s all that you should have. The veg file remains the same. i.e. when you open it again, everything will still be there.
Just remember that, the next time you render, the “render loop region only” box will still be checked so disable it if you want to render the entire project.

Vegas is a non-destructive editor. The original media is not altered with editing as in other NLE programs. When you render, you are creating a new output file according to the instructions in the VEG file.

If you backup your VEG file from time to time to a new name, you will have “restore points”. (I use this feature in Excalibur all the time). This means that you can make a copy of your veg file, open the project using the copy of the veg file and experiment with any feature of Vegas that you want. You can then open Vegas with the original saved veg file and your project will be exactly as you saved it.
