Don’t have any experience making downconverts from SR….

I’ve got DVCAM downconverts from SR (16mm @ 1080/23.98). I loaded the dailies at 29.97 intending to remove 3:2 so I can edit at 24.

Funny thing is, the 3:2 sequencing is shifting down the tape. Sometimes it starts on 0, sometimes 3, 4, etc… I loaded the whole 40 minute load in at 30fps, there’s no breaks in code, and typically I would assume once the deck starts laying down a downconvert signal it stays locked on whatever “a” frame it decided to use.

I’ll work around it, but is there something I’m missing?

You are correct – it SHOULD maintain consistent A frames. I would call the facility that did the downconvert dub and ask them if there was something wrong with the dub, and hopefully they should be able to redo it for you.

Just curious, how long until the first frame slips? There must be an extra field inserted every so often, right?

They screwed up. I’d make them fix it.
