I still can’t figure out if Quantize to Frames is On or Off….I’m looking at it under options and nothing changes on the icon when I click on it. How do you tell wheather it’s on or off?……………Thanks, Gary

Zoom in so you are only looking at a few frames. If QTF is on, then you can easily see the edges of events jump to the frame boundaries as you move or trim events. If it’s off, then you will be able to move them freely with no snapping.

    Gary,
I think Gary is asking how can you tell by looking at the button if QTF is enabled or not.

[Terry Esslinger] “how can you tell by looking at the button if QTF is enabled or not.”

    You can’t.

You sure?? The QTF button on my screen is a toggle just like the snap, crossfades and Ripple buttons.

It’s difficult to tell if it’s “depressed” or “up”. There’s not much difference visually between the two modes. However, you DO have two places you can look: the toolbar and the Options menu. one may be easier to see than the other.

Then, I am missing something because the Options Menu has a checkmark when Quantize is selected, and the toolbar clearly highlights the selected buttons.

What version of Vegas are you looking at? I looked at 4, 5, and 6 and NONE of them had a checkmark – instead they all had an image next to the menu entry. I didn’t try to go back to Vegas 3. Vegas 4 WAS easier to differentiate than 5 or 6, though.

Looking at Vegas 6, there is no way to see on the menu if QTF is on or not. There is an image, no check box.

I purposely put the Quantize button on the toolbar (customize) so I can see it. It will easily show a lighter gray background when it is on. Like the button is depressed with edge shading. I got burned once with it off during a video project. When off, it can create many 2-3 frame dissolves where you want cuts.

Geez! Sometimes it takes someone to slap one around the face to see the obvious. Gary your solution is so simple I’m kicking myself for not thinking of it before. I’ve used customise toolbar before but never thought to look there for a quantize selection button! This sub frame audio editing thing has been a problem for many editors coming to Vegas when they have been used to editing on systems that don’t have that ability to go sub frame. Very easy to leave it unchecked and create problems. I had one editor do an entire one hour show with all the video edits all over the place between frames! An absolute No! No! for broadcast. Thanks for the heads up.
