I’ve got an annoying problem with Final Cut Express that I can’t figure out. I’m scaling clips to a larger size and they look fine until I render them. As soon as I render they become really poor and blocky.

The clips are HDV that have been put in an SD sequence and are scaled down.

I found one other post about this same problem, but it was five years ago. Why do clips look good when unrendered?

How are you monitoring your image?

Just on my computer monitor, I don’t have anything else set up. It’s weird, I scale an HDV clip only 70% and it looks like Mario Brothers the quality is so bad. The regular DV stuff, which is at 100%, looks better.

Another thing I’ve noticed is my HDV clips, which are 1920X1080, become 1280X1080 when I import them to Final Cut. I don’t like that.
