Quality loss in after effects cs6
Hi,
I’m using after effects cs6 on an iMac (not the new model, but the one before), 3.4 Ghz i7, 16 gb ram, amd radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB, OS X 10.8.2. I’m having a problem when I import footage (dv widescreen) into after effects and when I export it. The quality is a lot worse (even with it set to full quality and at 100%) in the viewer, and in the lossless export I have the same quality loss and the colors are messed up as well.

Show us your composition settings, render settings, output module settings, and footage interpretation settings. Screenshots of each of the relevant dialog boxes is a good way to do this. Same for your Composition panel and Timeline panel.

How do I find footage interpretation settings?

If the footage is for computer playback then you have to Interpret in correctly. In this case Set Separate Fields to Off.
Monitors are progressive devices and interlacing looks ugly, so you need to remove it.

One of the things that leaps out at me is that you’re using footage with a pixel aspect ratio (PAR) of 1.21 and are using PAR correction in the Composition panel. The default for the scaling that is performed by that feature is for faster but lower quality scaling.

Regarding the color shifts: Try viewing the footage and the results in any player other than QuickTime Player (e.g., VLC). Also, try exporting to anything other QuickTime. QuickTime is notoriously inconsistent in how it treats colors—specifically regarding gamma.
