  • Quality issues on text when scaling down

Posted by Carlos Angeli on June 29, 2011 at 1:39 pm

Hi, I´m having a problem that I though was Encore-related, but it´s actually a scalling problem.

I´m using a scaled down video in a Premiere sequence with burned subtitles on it. When exported, the text looks jaggy and a tiny (The annoying kind) bit shaky from one frame to another.

Is there a way to solve this? Thanks

In the Sequence Settings, make sure “Maximum Render Quality” is checked. It will take longer to render, but will look much better

Hi, I´ve already tried that, but I´m afraid it din´t solve the problem.

Is the shakiness going up and down, or left and right?

I´ts up and down, but it´s so little you can only notice it in the subtitles.

That is an interlacing problem. Your footage is jumping between odd and even fields, and it’s usually noticeable on thin lines or small text.

When you make the DVD, are you choosing progressive or lower field dominance? Check the preset before you output the MPEG-2. Try both and see if one looks better than the other. If neither looks good, you wil have to de-interlace the footage (right=click clip in timeline, select Field Options, and experiment with Always Deinterlace or Flicker Removal). Try those options as your last resort, because there will be a loss of quality in the process.
