QT PNG compression dropping frames?
Hi everyone,
I have recently been trying to employ Quicktime’s PNG codec to compress footage for long term archiving. This codec’s compression is fantastic (and lossless) but I have discovered that it seems to drop frames. Bringing PNG encoded footage back into AE gives me single frames of white where there is no data. Playing it directly in QUICKTIME doesn’t show this, but if you step through the footage frame by frame you can see one frame where nothing happens (and it should).
I have tried several different programs to encode AVIs into PNG.MOV files and they all seem to have this problem. I have also tried not archiving sound with it, trying it in 32 bits instead of 24, interlaced, not interlaced…all the same deal. The animation codec does not have this problem…it doesn’t miss a single frame.
Has anyone come across this at all? Seems awfully weird. Strange thing is, when writing a PNG picture sequence to HDD, the frames aren’t lost. I don’t really want to write 24,000 frames to HDD though. Be nice to have them in a single MOV.
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
