QT movie taking forever to render
Posted by Mary beth Koplin on October 28, 2008 at 9:33 pmI’m using a .MOV created on a little hand held camera, now using it in a FCP sequence. I cannot believe how long it takes to render a simple edit! just MOVING the clip in the timeline requires re-rendering. any ideas what I can do?

October 28, 2008 at 10:03 pmYou could start by giving a little exact information. .mov means nothing at all. What exactly is the media? How did it get into your computer? What format are you working with in the timeline? Oh and what computer, what version of FCP, OS, QT are you using? We can’t see your machine from here.
All the best,
Tom

In addition to what Tom said, your statement above is indicative of timeline settings that do not match your media. That’s the number one “no-no” in FCP. You had best take a look at the following tutorial and commit it to memory https://library.creativecow.net/articles/biscardi_walter/realtime_sequences.php .

November 1, 2008 at 11:17 pmYou guys really helped me solve this problem. The clip properties did NOT match the sequence properties. Additionally, the clip was from a camera giving it a compression not available in my existing list of Compressions in FCP sequence properties. So, using Streamclip as suggested I was able to import my clip into Streamclip, export as a QT movie, and then make sure the sequence settings matched clip settings.
Many thanks for such great help, and I will keep the tutorial offerings in mind
