QT display size vs. Native size
Curious: When I export a 1280×720 h.264 QT of of our Flame system via Cleaner for posting -> QT player reports it’s size to be 1280×720. Plays great – even on older Mac laptops.
If I export the size file (same bitrate, same audio codec) in Quicktime Pro the resulting h.264 is coming out 1248×702 as it’s display size. These files are playing back stuttering on our client’s laptop.
So what is it that Cleaner is doing vs QT Pro? I have the feeling that QT is forcing a scaling factor on playback that makes the laptop hiccup.
Unfortunately I’m at a new facility and don’t have Compressor avail to me. Growing pains of a new company.

What happens if you set the proper value in the QT Properties?

Could be a lot of factors relating to settings that the two encoder systems place in the files. Check the movie inspector for both movies and see what else you can find that differs. VBR encoding could allow certain sections to have a very high data rate, causing the laptops to skip frames. The movie inspector in QT Pro will give you the encoded pixel dimension as well as the size it will scale to in order to play the movie on a square pixel display. The final movie should be encoded 1280×720 with square pixels.
