QT conversion>Macromedia FLV Not showing up
Hi,
I have searched for any other posts concerining this issue and can’t find any. Here is the problem. We recently purchased the 24″ imac with the intel core duo. We use it as a design station and as a back-up editing station and we just discovered that for some reason the QT conversion to Macromedia FLV is not available (In FCP and in QT). We have FCP 5.1.2, Flash Professional 8, and QT 7 Pro all loaded on the imac. Is there a plug-in that we are missing? We have a G5 Quad that has all of the same software and (for what I can tell) all of the same plug-ins and the convert to FLV option is available on that machine. I am wondering if this is somekind of a glitch with the inel chip (we are also having issues with QT playing .mov audio only files. Video .mov files work fine as do .aiff and mp3, just not .mov audio only files).
Anybody want to take a crack at this?

No glitch. You need an application designed to do this, like Sorenson Squeeze. That will encode QT to Flash.

What format are these QT .mov audio files? Quicktime is just a wrapper…there are dozens of codecs that it uses.

It looks like the QT files that do not play are the windows media audio 9 standard codec. We have Flip4Mac installed on the machine and the G5 Quad that has the same set-up will play this codec properly.

That is what you get when you export from FC “Only Audio’. Is just a PCM with a .mov extension.

We have exactly the same problem on our Mac Pro. We also have Final Cut 5.1.4, Quicktime 7.1.5 and Flash Pro 8 installed on our machine. Unfortunately we do not seem to be able to export flv video files out of Final Cut directly into Flash. Also, we do not seem to be able to make use of the FLV Quicktime export plug-in. We can not find the export plug-in anywhere and it does not appear in any of the menu’s.
Can you help ???

Up to the article in the Adobe b=web site, it should be possible to export from FC To Flash Video having the necesary components, but I swear that I have never heard of nobody in this forum doing that. As Shane sugest Sorenson Squeeze is one of the most widely used application to do that task. AutoDesk Cleaner is another classic.

We’ve just been able to confirm this today (3/30/07). It seems like the 7.1.5 QT Mac update broke the connection to the FLV exporter plugin (/Library/QuickTime/FLV.component)
Here’s how this should work. Anyone who owns Flash 8 Professional gets the Flash Video Encoder. The installer for FVE installs the FLVExporter plugin into QuickTime. Then any video app that can create QuickTime should also be able to create FLV.
Anyway, after updating to QT7.1.5 that option goes away. I’m investigating and we should have more info early next week. I have this thread tagged with a reminder so I don’t forget it, and I’ll let you all know what happens..
