I’m a little confused and not afraid to admit it. I have a Kona 2 and a Huge 1.6 sczi and I am hoping to load 20 hours of digi beta on to it. Ok so obviously full uncompressed 10 bit would only give me about 12 hours at raid 3 and that deosn’t even include renders. I was wondering if I went with the kona codec, would the data compress and what the compression is and is it completly lossless. And the real question is can I produce and online master off of the q-rez codec, I believe that this is a 4:1 compression so If I’m right and that didn’t look like junk, I could have 48 hours of footage in the computer. Sorry if this is basic but I am just getting in to the whole online editing thing and could use a little hand. The project that I am working on is a snowboard film that has been requested on a digi beta master, we shot it all on film and had it transfered to mdv and simo dubbed to digi beta. Basicly I’m just not sure what codec to use. The final piece is for dvd sales. My last question is If working in a 10 bit time line is it ok to add dv footage that is not upressed? Thanks a lot, I know that this is a huge question but hopefully someone has a minute to discuss my workflow. -Curt Morgan

Q-Rez is still not implemented in the current Kona2 diver (Vers 1.1). You might want to try some tests with the DV50 codec – small file size, very good picture quality. I use it for all my SD shows out to DigiBeta.
