QC software for colorists / postproduction?
dear all!
there is a often painful process called QC in our lovely post-pro-world.
in my world it is eg rendering a final master of a movie:
– watching it again on the monitor
– implementing subtitles -> watching it again
– creating a dcp -> watch it in the cinema with the dop and director, producer etc.so you get my point, QCing is watching over and over again. BUT many times
i miss some small quality issues, and not only me, everone involved in the QC process.
for example, a 2 pixel black bar at the very right or left. or a small “freeze” of the picture,
because as a frame got doubled caused by two interfering openfx-plugins etc…and now my question:
– IS THERE ANY SOFTWARE FOR QCing OUT THERE YOU USE?because formal errors could be analysed by a software in my opinion. if there is a frame
doubling, or a small pixelshift of the whole image, whatever.please tell me there is a software solution out there! or how do you handle QCing?

https://www.veneratech.com/pulsar/overview/Bear in mind these do not eliminate the need for skilled humans to actually watch the picture and make judgement calls about levels, glitches, creative intent, and so on. Note also that this software is not cheap.

I know of some LA houses that use Vidcheck or Cerify, but I’ve been told the software is many thousands of dollars and fairly customized. All of these companies will give you a time-limited demo so you can try it out and see if it works for what you’re trying to do. I think they’re particularly good for checking audio levels, ITU Loudness, out-of-gamut color, and stuff like that, but they won’t tell you if the picture necessarily looks good or if the shots match.
