Putting together new HP system – HELP
Hi all,
I’m trying to put together an uncompressed HD solution, mainly for running AE/Combustion/Zaxwerks ProAnimator & possibly Cinema 4D at a later date, to run on XP64 or Vista…
Currently looking at: –
HP xw8400 (2 x dual-core Xeon 5180)
4GB RAM
250GB hdd
nVidia Quadro FX4500 or 3500
AJA Xena LHe or Decklink HD Pro
2gb or 4gb Fibre channel card
2 x 24″ LCDs – at least apple cinema quality
Roland DS-5 active monitors
Sony BVM-A20F1M b/cast CRT or Sony LMD-232W LCD
Nucleo Pro————-
I’ve got a couple of questions for you AE gurus if anyone’s got any advice(AE is what I’ll be using most)…
1.) Does anyone know when the 2 x quad-core HP workstations are coming out? I might wait if it’s soon.
2.) Is there any point me having more than 4GB RAM at the moment, with AE still being 32-bit?
3.) Does anyone know difference between Quadro 4500 & 3500 in *real* terms (ie: AE performance and also will 4500 help me when it comes to C4D?)
4.) If i’m using a central RAID system to read/write all my data to/from will 2GB fibre be fast enough? Apple’s xSERVE/xRAID was something we were looking at as a central server/storage for 2 x GFX stations + 1 x FCP + 1 x Smoke HD. Anyone know if this solution looks like a go-er? I’ve not used external RAID before, will I still need a local media drive on my PC or will just one boot drive be OK?
5.) Can anyone recommend any good 24″ or so LCD montiors with DVI? HP do some at
